Squirrel feeder......

As mention in my other thread re Liberon Paste, I've been asked to make a squirrel feeder by the person who supplies my horseshoes. All I can find per Google is wooden boxes on a variation of this , but I'd like to incorporate h/shoes in it somehow. The feeder is taken inside every night if that helps, so perhaps a flat platform with an upright tube etc for the food would do.

I know there are a good few on here who are much better than I at visualising patterns/designs so I'm open to suggestions. My initial thought [note the use of the singular ] is to have a metal ring about 1/4" x 1" deep or so as a base [I have the steel for that] topped with a hardwood circle with h/shoes as a rail round the edges and holding the upright container [wire mesh] for the food, and a rod at the back edge extending up about 12" for hanging.

But I hate Squirrels, the little grey variety have taken to getting under the roof tiles, eating the felt and getting into the loft. I’ve fixed one corner and they went away for a while. Neighbor doesn’t stop leaving food for them and they are back, now having a go at the other outside corner

Drastic action is required both on the squirrels and neighbor

I quite likem, I find them quite tasty. Reds especially, much sweeter! Mind you, you need half a dozen or so to make a decent sized pie.

make a wooden box up a foot long 6inch square cut some 3 inch round holes one in each end . leave one side out underneath . buy 2 mk4 fen traps peg them down near a tree in garden and put the box over them. sprinkle wild bird food through it and I can guarantee you will catch the lot in a short space of time . they stick there heads in and go through right over the trap

use rat bait blocks in tunnels or in sheds and attic that sorts them as well

A more fun way is to pick them off with my new air rifle which is now fully dialled in. Can hit a 5p coin from 40 yards if gun is on a rest

Make a frame out of the horse shoes, two shoes welded end to end. Four of these to make a “rectangle”. Then make a mesh box to fit inside this for the squirrel bait, food, I meant food. Mind if it’s to feed greys, it is bait

Reds numbers are much improved up here, but we don't tend to tell specific locations where they can be found/seen.

has there been a cull on greys then cos that's what has wiped the reds out and habitat

Buffer zones like north Yorkshire / Cumbria north wales /Anglesey have been psying cullers
Greys are a real issue and have already decimated our reds i Most areas red have disappeared from 30-40 years ago

Friend had the things in the attic at work near Regents park, called in the squirrel man who after much talk in the office was asked to put in non lethal traps for the lovely fury critters.
He caught a No that went on Holiday to the Cotswolds I was told

Good work for an air rifle enthusiast. I have seen greys here and they are very brazen and adventurous compared to the reds.
