After much faffing about with gas mixes etc, I was happy with the results re spatter, I found the best thing is to control it rather than try to eradicate it, using heavt gauge foil to cover components, antispatter spray and arranging the components so that spater would fall away from them.
Meet Lightnin' tomorrow he is off to America to live in New York.
I was damn near invited to deliver him expenses paid, that would have been a great trip.




I put the price up for making him in stainless, but should have gone more as I forgot how much finishing and messing about there is using stainless. Still, a good result.

Do you factor in the cost of packaging/crating to prevent damage when transporting him and how about insurance against loss/damage?

Cheers guys, the hat came out great, a lot of violence was involved in getting the tired shape to it. I still prefer the rusty version.

I do include a token sum for packing my work as it is a royal PITA. What I did for Lightnin' was brace him and the guitar internally with cable ties and wood, then pad his extremeties with t shirts etc then put him a sack and stuff him into a box. The customer is sorting out shipping, how much? a lot not sure of a figure. But to get him from here to there in two days? bonkers. he is a very busy boy and has saturday free so he wants him there.

I feel flattered that somebody values my work this much.

How do you form the feet?

I would imagine working where you work is very relaxing with the nice views, piece and quiet etc. Wanna swap?

Sodding tractors everywhere, bloody chickens sneaking in to my workshop, hippie scum around the place,
Yesterday I was attacked by a giant hornet, hit the bast' with a hammer and came after me again.

Lovely views though on a clear day I reckon around 60 miles. A wonderful place to be.
My commute is terrible, 8 miles along the Wye valley on a tiny unclassified road on various pushbikes. Life is hard sometimes.


The feet? I make a rough armature of small bar then skin it over with the Mig welder, horrible work. But a great result.
