Stainless Silencer Suppliers

I'm seeking a silencer for a custom exhaust system for my Renault. I don't want anything noisy as it will be an everyday car, but the internet keeps trying to sell me boy racer stuff.

Can anyone recommend a supplier where I can select something with about 45mm pipe diameter in an oval shape for best volume for the space? Straight through would probably be OK if I can get a reasonable volume, otherwise a reasonable baffled one.

Last time I needed silencers I made them myself, but I'd rather save the effort and just buy one if anyone can suggest a place to look.

I have two stainless Flowmaster's on my Mustang and regular one Jeep Cherokee. They are relatively quiet but do have a deep sound. Mustang went up to 26MPG highway, not bad for a V8 (that's US gallons.) Jeep is 22MPG, it is supposed to get 19

They are not expensive either unlike the boy racer stuff

They do make stainless versions. A quick search shows a UK dealer here.

Most take them off Mustangs here as it had 4 cat converters. Gets annoying.
Have seen others that look similar but are very noisy.

Some of the high street exhaust firms will make stainless systems, worth looking in Yellow Pages and ringing round.

For a proper quiet one i'd try Rtbcomps suggestion first, may be cheaper than making one from scratch. I've used similar boxes to those in Shenions link before, generally appear to be known as 'turbo mufflers' but doesn't help when googling for UK suppliers. Got a Flowtech on one of mine at the mo, quiet while pootling about (none of that nasty 'crack' and 'drone' of many of the boy racer types), a nice deep note when accelerating

Borla and Magnaflow do some nice kit but not cheap

It's tempting to get someone else to do it, but trailering is a hassle (and expensive as I don't have a trailer or tow car). System is quite basic - I have the downpipe so it's only one bend to the flat floor, long straight pipe, and a couple of bends to line up to the silencer at the back.

Though the people I've used for pipe and bends in the past don't have the size I need either. I'll look at the guys recommended so far.

I was thinking just buying a premade silencer and maybe some other bits rather than subbing the entire job out. Ojz engineering more expensive than a stainless stockholder but reasonably cheap for places that will sell by the metre, wider range of diameters than many places too. They sell silencer components and no doubt make their own so i'd add them to list of places to call

Fair point rtb @ hotrodder - the local motor factor has a lot of exhausts in stock. I'm a regular there so they'll likely let me wander around their warehouse with a tape measure and set of verniers so I can write down a few car models.

These high street places seem to like to list by car rather than size. I suppose that's because most people will know what car they have. It's only me that's struggling working that one out.

OZJ engineering look good too - had a quick scan through their site. I'm not that bothered about price as I'm only making one exhaust. Finding the bits I need is where I've been struggling - much further forward now with the help of everyone here.

what size back box were you after. cant you use some tube and oval it in the vice/press. ive got some 85mm od tube,stainless

i normally start by looking here then try finding it cheaper merlin motorsport prob a stockist nearer to you

You could try Fin at dynoflow, he used to be a user on here, or Pipewerx, there my usual points of call if i can`t get what I want from a normal source. I have used Custom Chrome in the past, but they tend to be a little on the loud side.

I've been on the phone to Birchills who can do a silencer about the right size with the pipes in the right place. Saves me making a silencer. I'll organise some pipes and bends from Merlin and hopefully will have an exhaust next week.

Now just a tiny amount of stainless needed for brackets.
