Stainless to mild steel

I've got to weld an old stainless water tank to a RSJ frame. The stainless bit iam going to weld is 10mm its outside so going to be mma. What's the best rods to use ?

Can't you make up some stainless tabs to weld to the tank and then bolt those to the frame?

Search dissimilar rods

316 might work but would not be the best choice.

309 rods, last lot I used to stick a mild sculpture to stainless legs to be resined into a wall ran lovely.

This is a welding dog that I made a couple of weeks ago and has a mild steel body and a stainless threaded section (part of a M16 concrete anchor). I joined the two together with a dissimilar metal rod (Stubs 65 XL). Lovely rod to use but expensive to buy if you've only got to weld a few bits.

ORDINARY MS RODS will work fine

I've put right people's failures after they've used ms rods to stainless. Unpredictable, maybe it works, but maybe not......
