hy vernon why is the belt running off ??isnt it set up right or isnt there enough taper on the edges of the rollers to keep it central ??

Yes you saw the problem I'm fighting I think there to much crown in the bottom drum Going to take some out. Anyone have any idea will be glad to here Thanks Vernon

Do you need a micro adjuster like on commercial belt sanders?
One that I guess moves one end of the none drive drum slightly in or out of line.
I would imagine that to be a pain to engineer.

Hey Chunko,
My non power drum or top drum can be moved in any direction as needed fowards,backwards,in,out up,down,tilt one end and even side to side . The belt around the bottom drum or drive drum is only touching in the center telling me there to much crown. Thanks for the info Vernon

this might help. im running a 6inch belt on mine with 6 and1/4inch rollers both rollers are parallell apart from the edges which are slightly tapered 1 inch in from either side no. problem with run off

It's handy being able to run the belt at the edge of the platen if you want to grind into a corner or make a shaped piece of metal. You can build the drum up with tape to help centre the belt.

I think we are on the same page Let me make sure ONLY 1" of crown on each end of the drum is that correct. If so that what I'm thinking to.

Thank you for the help I cut the bottom drum flat all but 1 1/8 both sides left the crown there work great now very happy with it

You should be able to track it with your top pulley if there is enough adjustment on it. On my small bench belt grinder the crown is on the top pulley as well as the tracking adjustment and the bottom pulley is flat. I'm eyeing up my old pillar drill under the bench now I've seen yours though. A 2" belt would be plenty wide for anything I do though so should get away with a smaller motor.

I'm eyeing up my old pillar drill under the bench now I've seen yours though. A 2" belt would be plenty wide for anything I do though so should get away with a smaller motor.

I cut the bottom pully flat in the center and left a little crown on each end. Work perfect now. I always had plenty of adjustment on top the biggest problem was when sanding the belt would move all over now with flat in the center on the bottom drum stays still works perfect.

I have one similar to brightsparks, only the idler roller just sits in, and is only held in by the belt, there are 2 levers that look like his with a half round on the end, and pivoted by an off centre bolt hole.
Very simple and easy to make, and its worked for years.

I was checking it out myself very simple way to move the drum. Where mine is much more to it. Both looks to work very well. Makes you think I made have went to far over the top Thanks Vernon

I'd have never tried the design I have unless I'd seen it working, it looks like it'd fall apart, but it doesnt.

Worked on mine today got the belt to hold still. Very happy now the whole thing is working just great. Thanks guys for your info Some very helpful tips!!!

Runs well, have you tried shoving the belt sideways with something like you would during use, it looks as though it'd be fine.
Your shops just as untidy as mine.

Yes push a pcs of angle hard both ways. Stayed put.
