Steel rose

I made a rose for my other half for Valentines. All spare stuff except the main ball (gearknob). Bottom bit is a weight off some hand bar weights, then a bit chopped off another gear knob.

The flash has kind of blasted the colours, it's a dark red and it ain't so patchy in normal light but hey... brownie points were earned...

If I get brave I might add pinstriping, and barbed wire out of copper or brass if I can find some.

been thinking of doing exactly the same thing for ages, how did you get the shapes of the petals? copy a real one?

The petals, I tried some out first, figured out what was wrong, looking at pics of real ones helped. Made a hammer out of inch solid, and hollowed out some 2" builders plank. Bent some 12mm rod off a knackered wood lathe into a U. When the hollow was right they pulled up by themselves.

Thanks chaps. Had to be be painted, being Valentines and all, plus with little skull dudes red eyes it all sort of added up. I fancy trying some bare stuff though for the garden, and the boy is interested too, a nice bonus..
