Step by step guide?

Just a thought but I personally think it would be really helpful to have a sticky subject with a kind of step by step stages to spraying!

For example

1. Epoxy Primer
2. Sand with whatever grade is best
3. High build
4. Sand with whatever grade is best
5. Top coat (How many etc and sand between if needed and it will be certainly for me!)
6. Final sand/polish grades of polish etc.

It's just a thought I think this would be very helpfull for novices like myself a pretty much idiot guide to steps to follow.

I know this info is inbedded in other threads and also will vary with paint systems etc but say a thread fro a bare metal respray steps for say 2k and celly.

I think it would stop a lot of similar threads.

Just a thought mind!

Most of what your asking for is already in topics on the paint section, the search button will help you.
The problem with a guide is that everybody uses a different grit etc etc, although they use different the finished job will look the same.

Below is how i do it, others will differ.

Bare steel gets 2 coats Epoxy primer
then i key epoxy with 120 grit dry
then any filler work is done
Then one coat of epoxy to seal
then 3 coats of high build wet on wet
flat the primer with 600 for straight colour or 800 for COB
If straight colour put on 3 coats, If COB apply base and 3 coats of clear
Flat finished surface with 1200 then 1500 then 2000, then compound with G6, then G3, finish with G10

these are the steps for 2K, I don't use Celly as its nowhere near as good as 2K.

Stand back and admire your handy work

as Langy says, "others will differ" I do it wet Langy does it dry. There is no right way or wrong way just preference but done wet, it has to be dried immediately, done dry, you have to be sure you have removed all the dust in hidden corners.

As Nick says either way is sort of correct, I prefer dry as it removes any chance if moisture getting in.
These days most restoration painters dry flat, well the ones I know do.

Yep thats the Green TI, also good is Max Meyer 3011 grey primer

Would the dry grit be the same as the wet grit?

So for this stage:

"flat the primer with 600 for straight colour or 800 for COB"

Can you wet or dry sand with 600/800 and have the same result?
