ok so I can weld plate box etc mig and tig
but I have no experience in using the stick to weld pipework I am going to have a bash at it tomorrow any pointers would be great help thanks
better to start with rotating the pipe , get a nice root run in with a 2.5 , 70 amps ish then cap and fill , I use 2.5 rods for cap , what size pipe have you got ?
true smaller pipe /tube is hard as I found out with the tig one day messing around at work the angles move more quickly as you weld
I did some 4 inch ally tube before on my old car it was easyer than the small stuff
Am I reading this right, you haven't done stick welding, and you're about to try it on pipe?
If so, you're trying to learn to run before standing on two legs, never mind walk.
Take the biggest pipe available and probably the most important thing would be to get the prep right. The wrong size gap or land can really upset the job, but having it vary in different places round the pipe is even worse.
What rods are you using? That makes a difference.
I don't like to knock people back, but if starting with stick get a piece of flat plate and begin with a bead pad...
your right I am jumping in at the deep end I booked a day course to see what I can do or cant do so I thought I would ask for some advice to help me out bit .I know I wont achieve to much in a day but it might give me a clue as to weather I might be able to do it given a bit of training
the good thing is I have no bad habits so as a novice in the stick world give it a go
Courses are always useful if you take one thing Away that you use in future. Frankly without keeping up with stick you soon loose it. If you never had it a session with a good instructor has to be useful whatever
