If you have a lot of striaght line profiles to make out of thick plate what better way to go than by using a Straight line gas cutter.
This is the one i've used, Its an easy machine to use, just connect the gas hoses from your bottles to this, Lay the track in the same direction of where you want to cut, Plug it in. Make sure the hoses and cables are out of the way and don't get stuck whilst the machin is moving. then move the torch head to where the line is, i find it handy to have it 60mm away from the edge of the track, that means the torch is sitting in the middle and not right over to one side, ideally the closer you have it to the track the better, but not too close that it will get contaminated with molton metal.
I was using it to cut some 15mm steel plate and it does a brilliant job, i was well impressed, using Oxygen and Acetylene.
How about that for a Straight Line
Just move it to the edge of the plate, Light the torch and adjust like you would a hand held torch, then flick the switch to start moving, you have two directions forward and backwards, and adjust the cutting speed, Slow for thich and Faster for thin, Once the flame is ready open the OXY valve and that blows through, just like a hand held cutting torch.
A very handly tool, if you need to cut anything longer than 300mm
