Stud wall advice needed.

Well I'm finally into the second bedroom upstairs and need a bit of guidance.
I want to remove this stud wall and the timber it's sitting on top of as I want to keep the floor level as I'm going into the eaves.



It supports this diaganal strut.

If I pack it with a new piece of joist like this before I cut it out (it sits on the greenish looking supporting wall you can see here) will that be ok?

I'm running new full length joists across as well so it'll have three 7 X 2" joists under it.
Any thoughts?

It looks like the diagonal strut is bracing the horizontal brace on the roof joists so it will need to be secure.
When you say "cut it out" do you just mean the wood to the L/H side of it in the last picture?

From what I see the frame is fine to remove just make sure that roof crossover is solid

Put a double joist from your (green) support wall to the wall plate (eaves) with a vertical support from that to the purlin with similar type of notch in it to purlin skew fix with 4"round head nails lump of fence post would be ok.

You might want to check the adequacy of your support wall and also what it sits on it probably wasn't built as a loadbearing wall, might end up with sagging door frame heads and possibly just sitting on floor boards between joists?

Yes the bit on the left.

That green wall plate is defiantly a supporting wall as it holds the ceiling / floor joists up for two rooms!

@gaz1 when you say roof crossover do you mean the purlin half way up the roof?

Thankfully this side of the house hasn't been butchered like the other was so it's solid.

I would use coach bolts or similar to secure it to the existing floor joist, Just make sure it is nice and solid.

From those pictures no. It's impossible to say. Without a clear picture of the entire structure how can anyone tell if the original design has already been compromised? It's quite possible the roof supports have already been hacked about and the flimsy stud wall is all that is holding the whole thing in place.

It might look like it's structurally insignificant because someone has already removed a critical component.

Good news then. I have seen loft conversions which would make you shudder and come to think of it, partition stud walling as structural members. Plenty of videos out there of houses mysteriously collapsing during "renovations"

This is a chalet bungalow so the two top rooms are original ones but I'm going into the eaves here to give a bit of desk room for my boy.
The other side of the house was a total bodge up when I looked into it but all sorted now.

Yes I'm going up to the beam so gaining about 5 X 5" of space, it was a storage area before but only on 4" ceiling joists so I'm putting in some 7" ones.

1st and 3rd pic whats in there mind if i ask as that appears by the photo to be very thin and id be a little concerned if its a standing area like it suggests

if its only a trivial room have you considered opening the whole roof area up but doing it right this time

As above they're 4" joists I'm upgrading.
I don't want to open up the whole lot as it will involve removing two of the support struts and lots of steels! ££££
