Stupid question Clarke Rebel 60 & SIP 3hp150lt

This will be the dumbest question you'll have had.
I posted a question about the cfm on my Rebel 60 http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=24337 & really the outcome was it's not powerful enough for the air tools.
I've got hold of a SIP 150lt 3hp but from what I've read here http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=23937 this one is still not really up to prolonged use at one time.

So what I'd like to know is can I run both compressors via this

1 comp in 1 side the other in the other side then the single out to the tools or is this just a stupid way of doing it

This was the only pic I could find of a Y section, but yes it needs to be 2 males & 1 female quick release, so will this work?

I did this with that fitting. You need two whip hoses with a connector to your compressor regs on one end and a pcl the other. This plugs in to the Y. You then need a female PCL connector on the end of your hose, whicy you plug the single leg of the Y into.

It worked, but I kept reading about pressure on the wrong side of the reg being bad.

So i got two 1/2" bsp threaded PCL female connectors which I screwed into the end bung of the comps, then joined them with a whip hose with a PCL male connector on either end. Either run one comp motor with double storage, or run two to have 5hp and much more CFM.

Much cheaper than a bigger compressor, in fact given that there's bungs on either end of the tanks I might use my spare hoses to connect some more!

If the safety valve pressures are lots different you'll have to play with the cutoffs. E.g. when I did mine, the big comp cut out at 150psi, which is when the smaller one's blow-off valve went (it cut out normally at 116psi). So had to fiddle.

Depending what tools you run the big one should be OK, mine does fine, I hooked two up for blasting which otherwise gave the big one a trying time.

Used the same connector, just put fittings in to suit the other hoses.
