Hey guys as part of my course I've got to research this module for my craft skills course I've seen it used I just need info on setting up equipment
Welding a tee joint
Welding a single v joint
I remember seeing a lad
When we used to make boilers we would root with mig tac two plate each end the boiler v,d prep then the lad would have a amp dial and wire speed and flux speed settings or of something similar and weld it watching it adjusting it as needs be.
I could be wrong this is just my assumption of what I have seen
But all info welcome

your adjustments on the machine will be volts, amps and travel speed depending on whether its a tractor or a boom machine. your "flux speed" is usualy set by how far your shroud is off the plate as its normally gravity fed.

Ok as my firm don't have one its theory based I was supposed to be trained in my last firm but it feel through as the firm lost the job and well lets say 250000 wasted infact I cut there old one up. But I need to know theory of this like the fluxes for ect how to prep for and the theory of welding a tee joint and a v joint I've got 3 books and nothing zip

It's a fully automated heavy production process.
Set up wise it's a power source constant current type usually. A wire feed motor with contact tube and a hopper full of flux.
With regards your Q on T joints and V butts you don't weld them with SAW any different as you would with any other process apart from SAW is not a great rooting process if there isn't much metal there for it to penetrate in to as it will blow through as it penetrates very deep. Obviously it's main restriction is down to how you manage the flux. The flat position is always preferred otherwise you need feed belt systems to keep the flux over the arc. Like with all automated processes it cannot accommodate for changes so fit up needs to be spot on.

I reckon its the best process, providing the job is suitable. I built a machine with 10 welding heads to overlay plate. I forget the dimensions but it was big and could get a bit hot where the Operator needed to be. I have some photos if I can find them.

I've also seen various combinations of them in use.
Twin wires, acdc in tandem, cladding, little tractors to huge constructions. Etc etc. there are a number equip manufacturers such as Lincoln, Esab, Miller, Airliquide, and probably a few more. I know Fronius do automation but I don't think they do subarc welding equip.

Thought so. I've seen similar machines in the past but not with quite as many heads.
Is it a spiral type overlay or a fixed step over point every 360. Most plate cladding machines ive seen operate on watercooled tables and weld in the flat position then the plate again is rolled flat.
