Substantial Table

I've been offered what is best described as a very substantial table. I'll try and get photos but it's approx 4ft x 3ft x 3ft high. It was originally the base of a precision machine and consists of a top plate of approx 35mm steel on a heavy cross-braced frame from 60mm square tube, the top has been fly cut. It must weigh 500kg and seems too good to scrap but, considering the effort to move what use could it be?

If you don't want to use it for whatever it was originally used for and the missus won't let you have it by the side of the bed then some sort of workshop tool.

Welding bench would be the obvious thing although 4x3 might be a bit small. Sounds like it would be substantial enough to use as a hammering/forming bench. Maybe make up something multipurpose with a different tool on each side, a box folder, bench press, that sort of thing using the top of the table as part of the various tools.

Base for a cnc something.

Drill holes for pegs/bearings and make a bar/metal bender.

Fit powered wheels into it to make a ring roller.

Cut the top off and use it for projects that require a thick piece of steel.. Belt grinder?


But, honestly, unless you have a use/project for it maybe just consider how much effort it will be to move it.
If you do have a use/idea and it's cheap & local and you can get it back easily enough then why not.
Things like that are not exactly rare or expensive though so should be able to find one again if you need it in the future.
I've had a big surface table gathering dust for ages as I can't seem to sell it for much more than scrap value. I was planning to use the funds from that to get a proper tab/slot table but I'm thinking I may as well just start using it to weld on although it seems like sacrilege really!

Worst case you can swap it for some more useful shinyness
