Substitute for panel wipe.

I’ve bought a car from Copart for mother in law, was going to be delivering it on Friday however today I noticed an area of paint which has been split on the bottom of the sill, probably from being lifted by a fork lift.
As a temporary measure I’ve got a can of primer, base coat, lacquer, sand paper and tack cloth, the area is about 4-5 inches and was hoping that would work as a temporary repair until I can get it done properly.
Would brake cleaner work to clean the area instead of panel wipe? Or if not is there a substitute I presume thinners would be too strong

Dangerous Mat, unless on bare fibreglass. It dissolves lots of things.

I've always used brake cleaner. Seems to do just as good a job and so much cheaper than panel wipe.

It's good, but a bit fast for proper cleaning especially in warm weather.

Did it today, used brake cleaner, heated the panel up a bit with a blow heater and got the workshop up to 13 degrees, 2 coats primer, 2 base coat and 2 lacquer, actually came out quite well for rattle cans considering today the RH was very high, fine for the bottom of a lower sill, I’ll blend it in with some careful machine polishing around the edges.

If you wanted to wipe down the primer or paint after de-nibbing between coats would it just be a tack cloth or is there anything else suitable (chemical) - or is just clean water fine? Just curious as I (probably stupidly) wiped down primer with IPA on something I painted recently and it went a bit blotchy, painted over fine though.

The painters I watch online use a tack rag for that, presumably you’re using gloves when de-nibbling.

Only a light takrag application and nothing else.
