Why ?
If connected to a mig as the power source then the constant voltage is already there and the umbilical cable takes it to the wire feeder.
Unless you are meaning some other type ?
Do you have a pic of what you have seen ?

i'm on about the ones that use big arc sets as a power source.

i'm looking for an engine driven welder atm i chould get by with just sticks but mig would be usefull. if i can stuff a wire feeder on engine driven arc set. or hunt for a genny and plug a mig into it

The feeders for a diesel driven are voltage sensing,they alter the wire feed when you are welding to compensate for the change in voltage on a constant current power source.

Link broke as relisted... Fixed, it is a spool gun, but "includes" a box of electrickery to go between it and the arc welder... It doesn't work without...

OK, if your engine drive is cc only (arcgen 330, lincoln sae300 etc) you need a voltage sensing wire feeder, these work best in Spray transfer. If you have an engine drive with cv output (lincoln ranger/weldanpower, miller trailblazer) then you can roll with just a regular suitcase feeder which doesn't need to sense arc voltage.

i need to buy the right engine drive then. with a bit of tweeking i chould just run a normal remote wire feed of an engine drive with contant voltage ?

the spool gun and converter box is an intresting idea tho it dosent look that heavy duity i get the feeling it might melt

Yes and no... depends what power the feeder needs to run. Most newer lincolns have 42v ac to power feeders, my older one has 110v feeder power.

There's a tidy looking ranger 305 on eBay for 4k, there's also a tidy looking vantage 575 for the same money, which is a total brute of a machine... if I had the need or the work, or the cash burning a hole in my pocket then I'd get the ranger. Portable, powerful, multiprocess, ticks all the boxes.

I have an underfloor welder in a landrover for on site repairs, I bought an F2000i wire feed unit so I could mig on site as well as stick . Its a lightweight but only takes the small roll .

Its a lot smaller and lighter than my old one which is why I bought it but I dont think its going to last long in site conditions. Not used it yet
