Superwinch Model Identification and Repair

After a problematic day loading card on my tilt bed, I removed the electric winch to service it.

Apart from Superwinch and a serial number, there is no clue to the model.

I have been on the Superwinch site and also googled pictures, but still cannot find out what sort it is!

I have been travelling (again) this week, so I have used the Superwinch messaging facility on their site (twice).

They haven't bothered to respond in over 5 days - excellent customer service!

So, from the pictures below, does anybody recognise the model, or have any help with how I service the gearbox - mostly trying to get the freewheel pin back out so the electric drive can be disengaged (i.e. freewheel) as that was the main issue, but in removing the lever it has disappeared inside the gearbox case :-)

But at least the motor worked, so I could winch the cars on and off

Not much help really.... but I used to fold up the fairlead mounts and the winch mounting plates for them.

take the black plastic cover off of the gear box end the free spool lever just moves the big gear inside.

The problem was that the free spool lever was jamming the mechanism. It is a pin on a lever. When you remove the lever to get better purchase, the pin disappears into the case and no way of getting hold of it! Plus I expect I need to lubricate that area which is at the back of the housing buried under a lot of gears that do not seem simple to remove!

+2. I sent them (Goodwinch) a message through their site and they responded back with 10 minutes and after sending them pictures they identified it as an old X6. They will be calling me this afternoon to explain how to service it and get access to that free-wheel pin!

That is exceptional service to someone who is not even (per se) a customer! (But now very likely to be!)

Just had a call from Goodwinch. Lots of dots and crosses to align and if you don't get it right, it's ********. Plus that pin should never have gone that far back in, so that's probably ******** as well :-(

Thats him. A very well respected bloke, used to/maybe still does run off road and winching courses. Nice guy.
