Hi,
Just thought I'd post a few pictures from my bike build on here. No welding done on it yet but that will come in time
£120 got me this.
Looks pretty tidy, doesn't it? Unfortunately it was riddled with rust, the top end had gone in the engine (it had been run without oil) and a few other problems. So I decided to strip it down and do a full rebuild.
Stripped down. Yes, that is the dining room; I have an understanding girlfriend.
First job was to strip the frame...
And then sand and primer it...
A few coats of black paint and lacquer...
Next was the swingarm. I ground all the old paint and rust off with a wirebrush:
Swingarm and brake torque arm painted:
One of the bearings in the swingarm had to be changed. I used a hammer and a socket as a bearing press
Same treatment with the steering head:
Shock absorbers and chrome sissy bar polished up.
New paint job on the tank. This turned out to be a bit of a disaster although it looks OK here - plan is to eventually strip it back to the metal, re-filler and respray it, possibly in black.
Changed the fork seals...
Front end back on.
And the back.
It took a few weeks for some bits to arrive from the US. Namely a new cylinder head, camshaft and rocker arms. Once they arrived...
I rebuilt the engine's top end...
Look at the state of the old oil!
New head and gasket...
new oil filter.
Just got it started today after a week of faffing about trying to get a spark. Here's a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zN_V2X_d9Vo
Warning - you can see my builder's crack at the end.
A few bits left to do then it's MOT time
