Swaged nozzles with propane

I have ordered my oxy / propane set. I have been reading the Murex safety PDF:

For swaged nozzles only regulator pressures for acetylene are given. Do I use the same regulator pressure for propane? My understanding is that unlike the heating and cutting tips I can use the same swgaed nozzles with propane or acetylene. I intend to use these nozzles for brazing (but obviously not welding).

verry simlar only using propane instead of acetylene the torch flame is a little bit more dificult to adjust

Fire Fire! Help!

Been playing with my new oxy propane set from Weld Equip today. Never used oxy propane before and oxy acetylene a very long time ago and only under close supervision.

Anyway, pleased to report that I am still alive, the house is still standing etc.

The swaged nozzles were a pita to get to light as the oxygen just blew them out. Got that sorted though, found some advice that said turn on propane and oxygen to light. With I had bought some bigger sizes but great for localized heating for wraps and platting steel when blacksmithing

Tried the super heating nozzles but think I didn't really have them cranked up fully which actually is not so safe. Need to work on those but to be honest I don't think I will use them much. Got a backfire when cutting off the gas because I think I had heated the nozzle by not having it cranked up properly. Nothing major but made me jump. Homework needed. I think what I learned with the cutting tool will help - see next.

Tried cutting next. Found that was a piece of cake. My neighbour came around and he has cut before so gave me a few pointers.

All in all very happy with the kit and the service from Steve at Weld Equip. He did have to be patient with my dumb questions.

Oxy was from Southwest gas.

Cutting up plate tomorrow for a new coke forge and adding a wire wrap to a candelabra I am making. I don't think it will be difficult to get the basics with the kit but I am aware that a silly mistake could take the shine off my day.....

I expect much of the same applies for the super heating nozzles.

With oxy /propane i have always fired up the propane first, put the nozzle and flame against a metal surface then turn the oxy on.This seems to stop the flame blowing itself out.

I will try that Wyn. I did actually try that but I think the regulator pressures were a bit high. Trying to set the pressure accurately for a small nozzle is difficult but I have found that just open them until the needle moves off the starting block is a good place to start.

With some help from Steve and some research on the internet I found out where I was going wrong with the SH nozzle. I had turned off the propane first and I should have turned off the oxygen first.

One thing that confussed me was that there apeared to be conflicting advice. My new understanding is that the shutdown procedure for propane is allways oxy first. For acetylene the recomended procedure may be acetylene first.

But please don't take my word for any of this because I am learning and may have it all wrong. What I do know is that I started up and shutdown the kit many times for practice and no dramas using the approach of cutting the oxy first.
