Hello I have a Sykes Pickavant series 1500 hydraulic ram that is not working very well. Does anyone on here know how to dismantle these so I can check out its internals? I know I can buy a seal set with instructions but would like to take it apart before I buy the parts to see if its worth...

There's a diagram and I'm guessing the cup washer will need replacing. It looks unlikely to be a standard off-the-shelf seal.
It looks like there's a seal kit available from SP
Check out the Sykes Pickavent site, download their puller catalogue, they make a lot of add on kit but only one of two hydraulic bits, should be easy to find.
I've been investing in second-hand S&P pulled recently, and use it for reference.

Ah the good old putty puller.
Not a lot to them, retaining caps top and bottom, couple of seals and full of grease. Made one a few year ago but I didn’t fit a return spring of any sort so it’s didn’t work particularly well.
Just be careful when reassembling, it’s not as easy as it looks, whatever you do don’t get or capture any air in the cylinder at all otherwise it’ll be nothing more than a mantle ornament.
I have ,two seal kits, to repair , my pullers. I got them from local Sykes -pickavant distributor. It has ,2 x cup seals , a new piston, return spring and a tub of grease and instructions/ diagram. Cost was about £25 each.
I know this is old threads ..... But Iv a chinese copy you wouldnt know the dimensions of the cup seals ? or be able to measure them ? The seals are cream crackered in mine and was wondering if the sykes kit would fit

I was in the same situation, measured the seals & got them on Ali Baba I think. I don't think I got around to fitting them, I just use the Sykes ram from my other pullers.
