Taking plastic skins off a lot of units

Home office has decided that the kitchen cupboard doors and drawers need redoing, as she will be painting them I have agreed.

But I have to take the plastic or whatever is covering off the mdf front moldings.

Not had a go yet, some looks ready to peel off, some seems stuck as tick. there is a lot to do, that's less than one side

Anyone done this with good tips on how to take the skins off?

you will regret trying to take that off no matter what the mrs might say

if you still intend to do it you need a planner and router to get it all off

Have a planer easy big enough, also a router with accuracy of a skud missile with me driving it.

What are the options when the covering start to peel and discolour?

dont buy those plastic doors they are not fit for the purpose

build proper wood doors or buy them to fit your cupboards

he would be launching them out the back door five times quicker after the insane week of getting no where

unless you have an industrial planner

you would have to make a stand to hold the planner level to plane the whole door then it would be use the router for the bits you missed

New plan:
1 - Call Howdens with door and draw dims with hope they can match the front panels replacements with existing hinges.
2 - Take a few off and give them to misses saying its a piece of p*ss get on with it

best to go net and find the size of doors you are wanting

old kitchens doors dont match new doors and every kitchen display door is different

every supplier of kitchens also have different size doors and cupboards its a real mine field to try to find units and doors to fit what you have and what might have been removed as no longer works and the new models dont fit the holes any more

I hate the plastic coateddoprs when i fixed some i used super glue to stick the loose edges down and sprayed them a new colour

I'm sure there's a correct paint just for that job...
we just bought new doors n worktops.....doors were custom made to size......our old one's were just like ur's.....
our house is a holiday rental during summer so needed something bomb proof n easy to clean.....
around the corner is a laundry room with at least 12 more doors plus worktops....
doors are made from HD/mdf....
door handles new soft close hinges etc was less than 800 euro's.....
if we get 5 years out of them we'll be happy....

For what it’s worth that’s what we did to tart the old kitchen up before we punted the house.

You can buy ‘special’ paint and primer. It’s like gloss but plasticy for want of a better word.

I took them all off, prepped them and painted them in the workshop with a spray gun.

Lived with it about 3 months then moved on so no idea about long term.

Far cheaper than new doors and it looked alright.

Depends what you want. A reasonably cheap quick fix or a permanent fit and forget.

Forget it ... if the vinyl is lifting it's not worth the effort to fix

Plenty of place's online that will do replacements at a reasonable price

How about replacing the really bad ones with new too match and a rub over with scotchbrite pad and a coat of primer and then gloss ?

As I'm looking on line for replacements, Confucius she says,,, just try one that is really stuck down with no damage and see if you can get that off - shot to nothing ain't it...
