Tanaka hedge cutter

THT 1800 hedge cutter
Looking for a carb, & ign unit this. This carb has no priming pump & single pipe to tank. there seem to be some with 3 pipes & primer.
.
Have tried striping soaking in gun cleaner and a fair buzzz in an Ultrasonic tank, + new gaskets diaphragm

cheak out ebay

measure the holes sizes and order the same thery are ok for a couple years

All the ones I have found have primer pumps & multi pipes, will have another look the ign module may be suspect, both seem ok starts revs 1/2 sec dies wont start spark is there seems weak but the strimmer looks a about the same

i think on some you can add a carb that has a primer bulb the extra pipe just goes back in to the fuel tank

one picks up the fuel the other just drop in the tank about a 5/7mm as its only there to prime the carb (ive never done this but think it can be done)

wait untill confirm from another member on that



the ign mod im not saying they dont go wrong as they do most just fail so just never start at all only very few run fine till they get hot then fail

id take a size of a bet if there is good compression and it starts with fuel down the spark plug hole its the carb

Thanks @angellonewolf that's what I think does not need to get hot though 1/2 sec enough will strip the carb again before I do anything else would not bother but it has only run 15/20 hours from new

Tanaka is good kit....along with Ehco etc....

I've had some probs with those kinda carbs.....
a good do in the Ultrasonic cleaner can sometimes free em up....

if not a generic new one is/were around £15.....well worth spending that kinda money....

@500e I think you should take a look at the vacuum side of things. A two pronged attack on this, firstly check/clean the carb pulse port and path of to the diaphragm, any blockage/partial blockage will play havoc with fuelling. If its still messing about do a vac test on the engines crankcase and check the integrity of the crank seals,same again vac leaks on the crankcase will play havoc with fuelling.

Thanks Bob never liked things with no start button and at least 4 cylinders.
Promised my mum I would never play with garden machinery and so far have kept that promise

One thing worth pointing out.... I had a chainsaw that would not idle. If You could get the speed up it would run great.Just no idle. It held pressure for several minutes and figured all was well in that area. Someone suggested a vacuum test to hear the other side of the story. Failed miserably, like I was trying to get a vacuum through an open port hole.

Starts/runs/idles a treat - just it is heavy to use....

I've got a Hyundai combi long reach on the way. Looks like it may be here today. Not as expensive as that one, but should mean I can cover all bases at home. Long reach/strimmer/brushcutter/polesaw. Time will tell how good or bad it is. 3 year warranty. I'll have to accept the fact I've only got a D handle for the strimmer though. Used to using a Stihl with proper handles.

Edit: This is the unit I've ordered.
