Taping up the edges prior to rub down and polish

I have read much about taping up the edges before rubbing down a panel with 1200, 1500 and 2000 and then polishing.

Might be a stupid question but how do you do the edges? Just gently by hand. Can imaging I will have a nice shiny centre to a panel but very dull edges!

just be carefull

id suggest you flat the panel unmasked being aware not to sand any sharp swage lines

then mask off 1/4" along the edge , once its nearly there with the polishing whip over the whole lot

unless youve made a real pigs off it and its going to be a show car no one will see a bit of peel near an edge

A beginner should do the edges by hand, once you have experience with the buffer you can do edges no problem, its all about getting the feel of the machine. You tape after flatting but before polishing.
If you do try the edges make sure the polishing edge of the mop is coming off the panel, not on
