Hi,

Whilst browsing YouTube I came across the above interesting video; I've wound many transformers but never seen this done previously using a transformer; obviously very dangerous for a novice to play around with because it could prove lethal so I'm only adding it for interest.

That is exactly what I require for heating 60 x 10/12 X 225 bits of MSF so that I can bend them into a U

They are fun to build.
Microwaves are cheep enough.

Hi,

I've been brazing lots of TC tips to tooling recently and one of these with a timer would be brilliant as the heat source; I enjoy playing with such things. The picture shows ready for brazing.

I'd have thought that a Chinese induction welder would be better. They're not expensive. You might need four car batteries though, depending on the model you go for and how much power you want to generate.

I considered using a m/wave transformer to have a go at Lichtenberg art, as you can see, the general opinion/advice was "don't!!!"

The professional/semi professional ones do up for sale on The Bay.
I don't know if any are there now. As I have no need for one. Yet.

But they are good.

My boss bought one about 6 months ago were still waiting for him to plumb in the water cooling, it's driving me up the wall i've been desperate to play with it since he bought it.

One of the jobs we got the one at work for, is brazing chisel tips. I'll let you know how it goes, always assuming I get to play with it before I retire

Thanks everyone for your interesting replies.

I've had a good look at the Chinese induction units Seadog and yes they are excellent value; I was about to buy one yesterday until I read this;

I've also watched YouTube videos these being a mixed bag of both good and poor reviews so I didn't buy one.

I think the safest way for me is to build my own induction heater as you kindly suggest outofthefire; there are plenty of circuit diagrams and options to choose from; I'm familiar with electronics having restored vintage valve radios for ten years and I've designed and built my own bespoke power supplies; building an induction heater would be a nice project for me.

I'm also interested in this metal melter because I've wound many transformers and possibly making one of these adding a timer with a relay would be fun; it opens up an whole new world for me to play in; at the moment due to very rare good weather I'm working like mad outdoors before winter arrives here on the valley side again; even on a lovely day like today we've got the prevailing breeze.

The last time I brazed TC tips was over 50 years ago but it's like riding a bike never forgetting.

I gave a lot of thought to powering an induction heater Seadog and how's this for an idea I dreamt up never having seen it done or heard anything like it before; many of us on the forum have arc welders so what better power supply could I wish for; I've briefly looked into it and 48V open circuit with assorted amps to choose from I'm either barking mad or onto something new; it's not difficult to change AC to DC with a full wave bridge rectifier and capacitors for smoothing; I've done it often enough?

If only I wasn't retired then I would have time to experiment.

I don't want to electrocute anyone so please play safe because electricity at mains potential doesn't take prisoners and a very simple mistake could be the last mistake ever made.
