The need to haggle

Aa renewal in the post last week,£275 !
So I do the usual trick,phone a few days later,tell them I’m thinking of leaving,there’s even a numbered option for that service,instantly,she knocks the price down £96!
So I tell her if you’d have advertised that as my renewal figure I wouldn’t be phoning you,she states the FCA ,and that they have to tell the member the full price.
The cunning robbers that they are .

I phoned the RAC a few years ago about the renewal price been higher than a new member so I offered to leave and rejoin, the guy reduced my renewal to the new members price and said just phone up and do the same again next year, this went on for a couple of years then a nice lady said instead of having to phone each year she would fix the price on my records

Usually I get a renewal in that I don’t like. Call up about it and they say “oh yes sir I can reduce that for you” to which I normally say something along the lines of ‘you were happy to charge the higher rate until I called up and complained then you are happy to charge the lower rate. If that’s how you’re happy to look after continuing customers then shove it up your dirtbox sideways I’m off’

Normally rinse and repeat the next year with the next bunch of crooks.

However, can’t say that about NFU. They’re spot on.

The others I deal with used to be terrible until they did something with the regs so they can’t give new people better deals.

I'm trying to buy 24 DCDC converters. They are chips about 25mm square. Total order price is about £1k.

Which, after Truss' experiment, isn't far off £220. For a handful of chips.

Exactly the same thing happened with AA policy, I was sick of phoning them every year, also it’s the same with sky tv, telephone contracts, broadband contracts, they’ll all shaft you up the erse if you don’t talk to them every year at renewal.
In fact every renewal policy falls under this category.
At least by law now they have to tell you how much you paid last year so you can now see how much they are trying to shaft you at renewal.

its the same with the lot of them including the insurance side of it

ive had the argument with aa myself about being an existing member should beable to get the new policy at that price not the inflated price of an existing member
even with a 10 percent discount on top as well but i had evidence of this tech is really handy sometimes

so pushed enough until i got what i wanted

blueyonder it was just a phonecall, virgin you really have to fight to get the reductions on your account

Check out autoaid. It was recommended on moneysavingexpert a few (probably 10) years ago and we've been with them ever since. About £60 a year to cover you and your "legal spouse".

They don't have a fleet of vehicles like RAC / AA. If you break down, they just find the nearest breakdown service and pay them to come and sort you out.

I've had about 4 call-outs in 10 years and the waits have been similar to what I'd previously had with the RAC.

I buy RAC cover, fully comp, euro & all the other bells and whistles.
I use an insurance broker, don't insure a vehicle with them any more, but they are happy to sell me "broker direct" insurance. I forget the exact amount but it's £70 +- a nats.
RAC have consistently performed brilliantly on the continent, 3 of us in a hotel for 4 nights while van fixed or a couple of months ago when my partner was off visiting family & her car started making a dreadful sound... I'm so glad I stumped up for the RAC, there are others, cheaper, but I wouldn't trust them to get me out of a hole.

Two cars and two people covered for £62 (renewed last week) is the cheapest I could find that covered my requirement to be recovered to my home address. The only stipulation is the vehicle is 15 years old or newer. I've been with them for three years but never needed to call them (touch wood...).

I think it's the touch wood bit that decided me. I went with auto aid over covid but only as I knew I'd be around to rescue partner if it went wrong.

Still cheap enough. When I looked at RAC and AA one covered the vehicle regardless of driver and the other covered the person regardless of the car they were in. Either way, that's two policies at £££ each. As for recovering the vehicle, I just want to know they will get me back home and not just tow me to the nearest BS artist who thinks they can rob you because you're stuck miles from home!
