thickness of steel for sills

hello, im currently in progress of rebuilding the sills on my peugeot 205 gti, i purchased some sheet steel from a motor factors thinking it was 1mm but i have yet to measure it as ive misplaced my vernia caliper,

Just wanted to ask what is the best thickness steel to use for body work rust repairs? i cant measure the steel on the car as it has rotted away, it seems the steel sheet i have is really thin

would 1mm be fine for the sill area jacking points ect

I would be a lot happier using 1.5 1mm will prob be OK but not as easy to weld for a novice. My mini jacking points are 2mm and are OEM ones. They form a structural part of the sill and is what helps box it together

Have you taken the old sill off and inspected the inner ? Jacking points are reinforced, the outer would be something like 1mm originally so if you have the ability to use it the metal you have will be fine. Use the chassis or suspension points when you jack up anyway, the jacking points are only for the emergency side jack that comes in the original tool-kit.

I used 1.5 for the inner sill and stregtheners from a sheet then ordered preformed ebay pattern panels which are much thinner to finish it off. Pleased with the results but wish i could have flipped the thing on its side first.

What i was supplied originally from a motor factors is about 0.8 yeah, really thin stuff.

its the inner sill i am rebuilding, there was nothing there its just rotted away, ive removed the outer sill,
id need it to be strong on them points as i use a 2 post lift

2mm? doesnt that make it really heavy?
i would be happy using 1mm, and can weld that ok, id just be happy if it was nice and strong, i may reinforce the jacking points with some thicker steel, i do have some 2mm plate i can use just as reinforcement but i thought it was a bit heavy

i have made a table for the shell to sit on so a can just about sit upright underneath it, (its a really heavy duty table from 2mmx50x50 mm box)
and axle stands for extra saftey,
i would love to spin the car on its side but i dont think i have the roof height,

i cant find any think pattern for the 205 only a few parts like outer sill panel and front panel ect

No, the size of the jacking point will have hardly any effect on the overall weight. Less than a bottle of water.
