I need to repair my favourite keyholder. The Troika Patent key holder. Had one for years now it's worn and I need to take it apart.

Here's the construction:

Looks like the spring goes into the hole with a catch on top. The retaining bolt goes on top and the little stud then goes into the hole, retained by that tiny pin on the spring. I need to somehow pull the spring back with the pin latch, remove the stud. There's a 1mm hole under the spring....

Yep could just buy a new one and throw this away but....

Might be interesting to make some microscopic tools out of pins. I think if I can pull the spring down from underneath, it will release the pin and free the catch.

It is a brilliant design and the body looks like it is turned from a chunk of solid brass. There is a tiny divot in the body and an equally tiny divot in the retaining catch. When they line up, keys can fall off with the slightest effort.

not meaning to throw the old one away
buy a new one then repair the old one if you can't then you still have one to use while you fix of scrap the other

I've got one of these too, was bought it for my 18th by a mate, it's still going strong 16 years later, although the plating has come off and it's down to the brass now, brilliant keyring though.

I have had mine for so long I can't even remember. I have become more attached to it over the decades. Unlike the keys....
