Thoughts on an External Cage for Oxy-Acetylene Bottles?

Having a sort out in the workshop to make a bit of space and I'm thinking of making an external cage to hold welding bottles - they are in the workshop at the moment and I've always wanted to relocate them for safety as well as freeing up space.

NB this is a hobby set up not commercial.

I have a set of full size Oxy-Acetylene bottles on a trolley, and also a Porta-Pak set also on a trolley. In addition I have a 47 kg propane bottle for my gas ceramic chip forge.

One aspect that has contributed to the delay in doing anything is I really want to leave the gauges, hoses and torch attached so that they are always ready for use, so the design needs to be weather proof, yet very well ventilated and scrote proof (although I can place it to be out of sight)

Has anyone done anything similar - if so can you please post some pictures.

Sounds like you need to make a nice big louver punch for your press.

I've got no pictures but our pure argon for the quantometer lived out side in some pretty dirty conditions, but we opted for stainless regulator for it

We never had anyone try and nick our gas cylinders

When I get around to it I was going to junk the OA bottle trolley, strap the bottles to a wall outside and hard pipe the gas/oxy into the workshop to one of these reels.

Well I ordered up some heavy galvanised mesh from F H Brundle along with some 1.2 mm galvanised sheet - I'm making one 1 meter x 1.5 metre by some convenient height probably 6 foot (to mix units!),

Be interesting to see when they can deliver in these troubled times.

Finished the Oxy-Acetylene cage this morning all bar bolting it down (concrete still rather green)

Well Graham, as you know I'm at a bit of an impasse with the 100 kW induction furnace due to the big chiller unit dying on me - go find me a 40 kW chilling capacity water cooler that I can afford

Out with the angle grinder and open up the old one. You can get rebuilt ones, but they're not cheap, obviously
