normaly if the valves wernt bad you would get them reground and the valve seats re cut
Neither valves nor seats finish look very good TBH, not sure criticality of application but I would not be happy with that in a lawnmower. Good pics btw
You could spend more time, course then fine with lapping paste and a suction swivel stick, do a 1/4qrt turn a few times, lift then next qtr and so on with rough then fine. But either may be too gone for a robust seal.

They look to been pushed tge point where they be recovered by grinding. The valve looks as though it is hollow on the contact area, which means that the seats will be the same. With the ringing due to overgrinding they'll never seal.

no need for a recon unit......
so new seats n valve will return the head to new qual.......provided theres no cracks..
There's a place in Stockport that uses Serdi valve equip......pract one of the best machine sset up's.....shame it's French.....
U choose.........
if the head was unobtainium and had to be repaired.......
I'd get it vacuum tested for cracks, a head skim plus at least new valves and hardened seat.....for no lead fuels.....modern cr@p.....
they will advise on / if guides are needed.......
Then it would be better than new.....
I'd have to ask a mate who's the firm in Stockport....
was told once that Serdi machines are used in high end racing cars........
but most eng reconditioners /machine shop would do a decent job of ur head.....
the last time I got a quote for the Serdi set up it was about 25% more than the normal hack it n weld......
it's the difference between Rolls Royce n Ford......

its for a boat, not used a whole, lot like a car everyday. I can get a reconed head complete and a bolt on for £450, after new vales fitted alone its near there.

For a head that's been cleaned, skimmed, new seats, valves, guides its a no brainer, you still need to check what they are doing/supplying for the money though as it doesnt go into much detail in the ad. Also note they hold back £200 on the core so dont send them that cracked head.

Valves look like they will probably reface, there appears to be some 'meat' (margin) left above the seat. Valve seats in the head don't look great. Once they have been refaced you might find the valves would be below the combustion chamber surface; getting hard seats installed would fix that. But would cost a couple of hundred quid plus for the job.

Yes, i will need to see about the refurbed supplied head. see wat i actually get for the money.
I called the machine shop i used for the block to see, and they said a refurb of a head is £125 with me supplying parts. not bad and i have another two non cracked heads to go at. ill have to price it all up for the best. Il crack on with more stuff on the boat for now.
on the specs the valve seats are at maximum so new seats will be best. ah but then a said above i have other heads to look at. either way its a refurb one way or another.
