I had a hell of a job removing this swingarm bolt from my old Honda. Ended up with the damage as shown in the pic (don’t ask!)

Now I find these bolts are no longer available. My question is how best to attempt to ‘restore’ this mangled example. Could the damaged area be built up with a series of MIG beads, then turned to correct diameter for re-threading. Or would the newly deposited metal be too hard or too porous?

I would buy a new bolt which is of the same diameter but much longer, and cut the appropriate thread into that.

What's special about the bolt? could a standard one be adapted?

It's a CB750 K7. The bolt is 310mm long, 13mm dia. I have looked for a bolt of this size but they dont seem very common. Ebay has no used Honda examples at the moment.

I would think it will be OK built up and re-threaded, just let it cool between runs to keep most of the mechanical property's.

if u cant get a bolt the right length go to a nut and bolt manafacturer or suplier buy some high tensile rod the right diameter and thread both ends to use nuts on

i know you said it was 13mm is there any chance it could be 12.7mm(1/2") in real money, ive had just a few bikes and still have a few tons of bits and pieces ill have a look and see what ive got if you want!

Give breakingpoint in Aberdeen a ring (get the number of the net) they will have one from a crasshed bike and they are ok price wise,

I'm not buying this.

Try finding head bolts of any air cooled truck engine (older ones), I think I've seen some 13 mm bolts on such positions, hardness 12,8 mostly
