Time for a new hose

I needed to use my long hose early yesterday so dragged out the, probably, 25 year old rubber hose. Now I like this time of year with the misty mornings but handling old rubber hose was like holding an eel - slimy. To make matters worse I was left with hands completely black so reckon the hose is way past it's best and time for new.
Are the yellow hose you can get from Machine Mart worth the additional cost over the basic black rubber ?

I bought a bright coloured one some time ago as it was 10mm & thinking it would be easily visible, I got it through their click & collect service. From memory I think was a L**** one, but not sure. When I connected to the compressor o found it leaked from both of the couplings, the crimped bit over the tang that enters the hose was loose & you could swivel it within the hose. On the box it said "our aim is to please, any problems with this, ring our helpline" so I did & was told why are you ringing us, it's up to the seller to sort it, or words to that effect. Needless to say I said I rang you because of what's on the box, but slightly stronger than that!

I ended up taking back to MM & getting an ordinary black 10mm hose, I didn't go direct originally as they didn't list 10mm on their web site, but it turned out they stocked it a anyway. Would I buy another, no.

Hi Compo, just looked on MM's web site, I see that that hose is sold under their own name now, so I can't really comment. All I can say is check the crimping on the ends in case it comes from the same source.

I brought a normal black air line off eBay a few years back. I'm 90 per cent sure it was silverline, 10 metres long for £10 and can't fault it, doesn't leak, hasn't cracked and doesn't go hard in cold weather. Was a basic 1/4" but may do other sizes and lengths.

I have a Sealey 10mm bore hose at work, used every day for 6 months so far, bright blue and also cannot fault it, slightly more flexible, cannot comment on price as I didn't pay for it

Reckon I might as well buy off eBay seeing they can be got a lot cheaper than MM. Might go for a 15m and then cut down into a 10m & 5m.

Can't help with the hose questions but surely when you go in to buy it you have got to say "got any o's" a la 2 Ronnies!!

In the end bought a Bergen hose off eBay -

15m for £18.49 which is cheaper than Machine Mart wanted for 10m on VAT free day.
Cut it down into 5m & 10m as more useful for me.
Very subtle / light.
Only time will tell if a viable alternative to rubber (will only have DIY use)
