Tiny compressor no cut off

Clarke Whizz air. Brother using it for an airbrush. I happened to have an old air tank lying around as you do
There is no cut out on the compressor. It runs to 40psi and that's it. Pressure stops climbing but it still runs.
Is this likely to damage it?
I suppose its just the same when you release the trigger on the air brush?

I got one of those for Best Boy to use with his airbrush, I think it also only gets up to 40psi or so, it's probably what you'll get from yours...

I don't need more pressure just worried what happens to the excess air when it hits the limit?

I think it'll just stop pumping, there's probably only enough compression to get to 40psi in the compressor cylinder so it'll just keep squeezing the same air until the demand side drops and it starts pumping through exhaust valve into the receiver?

they are diaphragm compressors so thats the way they work. I used to have a diaphragm compressor, I fitted a 0.6mm mig tip to the head to vent excess pressure, and my airbrush still operated at 30psi.

Most better models of this type would have a blow-off pressure relief valve to limit their maximum pressure. That allows continued air flow through the pump, thus avoiding possible overheating. I had a Burgess spray gun kit with this type of compressor … I might still have the compressor…

It's whisper quiet - quite a change from my others

It wont be 100% duty cycle so best to fit a pressure switch, no sense in it running for no reason.

I can't believe they are so expensive now. I paid around £30 from the Machine Mart returns section. Had loads of bargains that way! They are £120 now!
