Tiny electrical connector(s)....

I sent off for one of these to replace the battery pack in my hair cutter/trimmer and it turned up today.

The current [original] one is connected using solder on the wires which disappear into the bowels of the trimmer. There's not a lot of space in there when refitting......



and it occured to me that if I could find a female connector for that end it might make the job a) easier [I'm not great at the soldering ] and b) more simple to replace in the future [seems these don't last long ].

I've done a quick Google but without knowing the correct term for them I'm struggling. Also, how are these fitted/connected - is a special tool needed....?

First I would extend the wires, solder with a mini linemans splice. I use these tiny plugs for most things like this, single li-ion cells for my shaver, motorbike indicators etc, anything low power that doesnt need 4mm plugs.

I have spares if you want some quicker I can post some. They are a pain to solder. Use one of those helping hand stands.

Unless your hairs are weak, that battery wont have enough power. All of my shavers I remove the electronics, fit a switch and wire a bigger li-ion cell directly, could really use two, and the trimmer still struggles with my beard hair Does get quite warm, nice in winter.

If you are not going to be taking it apart regularly you could skip the connector body and just use the contact pins.
That would let you use bigger pins that would be easier to handle and crimp/solder.
Just cover the pins with heatshrink or a bit of insulation stripped from some cable.

only reason im asking i did not know when i bought a battery for my drill they got a differant discharge rating that they do not say abought (dont even know if this is true as the bloke said you want xyz battery as the discharge rate is higher
