tool name?

Hi Folks,

Need help to buy the right tool and I'm not sure of the type/name.
I'm looking for a tool for grinding welds in toght spots such as right angled corners where a std grinder can't fit.
I bought one of those silverline small belt grinders but apart from using a belt for every minute used (screwfix 60 grit belts) it does not fit all awkward places.
I've seen on USA TV restoration shows small pneumatic (die?) grinders? that have what looks like metal conical grinding bits, that is what I am looking for.
I have a dremel but all the bits are useless for grinding down welds, the grind stones wear out so quickly and it make little impression on weld joints.
I would appreciate to know the type of tool most suitable, how do you deal with a blobby weld in a corner or tight spot?

The metal conical grinding bit was almost cerainly a carbide burr. The cone-shaped ones are indeed very handy.

You can use it in anything that will hold it I have many times used one in a pistol drill and even in a battery drill but they like to be spun FAST.

Die grinder , they are available straight or angled and are very handy , good ones are spendy , but plenty of cheapies that do very well for the money , I prefer air but also available as mains or battery , the bits are the same as everything , ie good ones are quite expensive but work really well , cheap ones dont do so well. good safety glasses are a must have too.

You really want one with speed control too, I gave my dad a spare burr to use with his fixed speed one and you could barely hang on to it, I thought the shank was bent until I put it back on my grinder, it works perfectly at around 15krpm but turn it up to 30k and it's useless. I imagine you get less life out of them screaming away at full speed too, I've been using the same ones for years.

Worth also mentioning - be aware you will want plenty of PPE, and I'm not joking. Also a really good pair of tweezers.
Ask anybody who has used a die grinder about those evil little needle splinters!

Die grinder is always my last resort just for that reason.

they arent as bad as the toenail machine ..

Ice a 3.2 mm makita nibbler and it leaves little toenail clippings everywhere , they stick in your boots and stay there for months.

It will only be for those occasional awkward places..I hate grinding anyway...make me realise I put too much weldd on, usually when I am trying to chase a hole etc
I'll go pnuematic, compressor is small but allows me to spray a car so i should keep up.
