Tools for your compressor

Just looked up on the auction site and found information about my compressor.

Description: petrol 50L air compressor
Tank: 50L
Power: 5.5HP/ 4000W
Capacity: 50L/Min（10 C.F.M）
Speed: 950rpm
Cylinder: 65mmx 2 piece
Gross Weight:60kg
size 80x80x40cm
CE compliant

Am i right in saying it looks like i need to use air tools that will use 10 c.f.m or less?
Will i be limited to the type of tools i can use?
Surley this will good enough for hobby use.

Its plenty big enough for hobby use

You can use tools that use more than 10c.f.m but just until the compressor cuts in to fill the tank in other words small bursts like a impact wrench

Just a bit paranoid now after some others telling me i need 14cfm compressor.

10CFM is probably displacement. It probably is about 7CFM FAD.

Ok, my compressor has the following specs:

9.9 CFM at 90PSI
11.2 CFM at 40 PSI

Those are FAD or "Free air delivery"; what the compressor can deliver at specific pressures. That is what they are specified in the US. The 90PSI one is the important one.

In the UK, seems everyone specs pump displacement. Really that is a useless number but looks better than the "real" numbers. I think my compressor is about 14CFM displacement. It is hard to say the displacement as you will never see it mentioned in the specs in the US.

The US does spec useless horsepower numbers. My old compressor was 3.5HP. The most you can get with a 100% efficient motor would be 2.4HP on a standard 15A plug. Maybe 2HP real world. The compressor used about 1.7HP running, the bigger motor is just for bragging rights. My current compressor has a 5HP motor but probably uses about 3.

Im more of a hands on than tech person and like to get on with the job but with these compressors you need to know about their capabilities.
All i want to do is have a compressor that is mobile and can deliver power to a range of toos like, spray gun, small blast gun and maybe a wrench drill just so i can repair me Land Rover.
I have bought a 1/4" airline, 3/8" airline to use on the outlet valves fitted on the compressor and some adaptors,spray gun and a air blower.
A small blast gun, regulator and metal nibbler are being delivered on Monday.

That compressor will be just fine for what you want to do but with the blast gun you may have to wait and give the compressor time to fill the tank

I used it to spray and it seemed fine, i just need to workout how much thiners to mix in.

thats easy to gauge put paint in a jar start thinning , dip the stiring stick in and pull it out.if paint comes of slowly more thinners needed and try again if it seems ok fill the gun and do a test spray on the old proverbial one gallon oil can , if it goes on like orage peel thin down more if it sprays like pee thicken it up a bit . its down to practice once u get the idea

Hi Brightspark,

That basicaly what i did, just need more experience.
As soon as me fractured toe feels a bit better i'll give it another go but it looks like i'll be needing plenty of thinners...lol
