Torch selection

Hi all,

spotted a brand new Murex torch going for a song but it's the 400amp version.

It's a euro connection so assume it will fit my euro connection but is there any reason whiy I should fit a bigger capacity torch?

Is it just more bulky? Would a 0.8 tip fit? etc etc

Please share your experience with a new guy

My MIG came with a 400A torch (Tweco), It is about 18" long and there is several pounds of weight hanging down with the beefy cable. The cable is about 3/4" in diameter and does not bend out of the way. So you need almost 3 feet of clearance to use in confined spaces. Will do 0.8mm though (up to 2.0mm).

I picked up a lightweight, 150A torch (MiniMig) as it is easier to use (really wanted a #1.) The big one just sits unused.

I run two torches on my 300A miller a mb36 torch when I have to as its big and heavy! And a mb16 for light stuff as I can get it into tight places and it doesn't need two hands to hold it

O.8 tip would imply that you are welding light stuff , we used 400 amp welding torches welding JCB booms with dual shield and they are rather heavy and not to flexible.
My torch of choice would be a tweco #1 like shenion ,a good all rounder and easy to repair. we used them welding disco chassis
If the torch is as cheap as chips then give it a go you've nothing to loose
