Trading Standards - Sandblasters.

I've just had a letter from Suffolk Trading Standards about our beloved Ebay gritblasters. Coincidentally the manufacturers of the Ace Gritblaster are based in Suffolk.

Problems outlined were

1) No 'notified body number' and no CE mark. This implies the vessel was not tested correctly.

2) The nozzle valve could be accidentaly opened if dropped.

3) If the hose were to be pulled this could cause the unit to tip backwards.

4) Loose hose connection at the vessel.

5) No CE mark or warning notices attached.

6) Instructions inadequate and out of date.

7) Hood not CE maked or approved.

Ooch. Good point though - there isn't a CE mark to be found on the thing. I hope the seller can rectify those points and make the thing legal to sell. There's still one on eBay for some reason. Trading standards missed the hose at the bottom that can pop off if you don't get it really tight.

How did they know to write to you? I'd have thought private purchasing information ought to be kept confidential and especially not given to the government.

I'm sure mine had a CE sticker on it. I asked the vendor of my 10 gall pot if it was CE approved and he told me it was.

Point 4 covers the hose popping off.

I've made my 20 gall pot a permanent fixture, I didn't reckon I could move it anyway if it was full of chilled iron!

I've replaced the mixer with a standard fitting and proper 14mm hose tail.

I noticed the one on ebay, there are usually half a dozen.

I guess they went through the vendors records, they're a limited company so have to keep proper accounts.

I'll probably get a letter too then. Seems awfully helpful to send letters to everyone - I suppose they are just making sure everyone is aware of the potential issues they've spotted.

So long as they don't want them back. I'll tell them I've converted mine into a plant pot.

If they do a recall, make sure you get your cash before sending it (and takes the plants out), after all they got your money before you got the blaster, and being a limited company they could disappear.

Did you get yours from KMS trading on ebay?

I think I got it from them. Certainly kmsdirectshops shows up in my feedback.

I suspect they're related to Korel Merchandise Ltd above. I haven't checked with Companies House, but I wouldn't be suprised if both companies had directors with the same name!
