transfer box jack

after struggling to do transfer box on my landy made stand for jack to make it easier next time.
it bolts on where 4 middle bolts go.

My R380 box crapped itself soon after I rebuilt the whole Defender 90, I just laid underneath and supported it with my knees

shox i used to be able to do that but still not fully back to full strength/ health yet.
besides my middle boy likes to work with me these days and hes only 12.

Only Joking fella, I had no jack to do mine, and I wanted it out pronto.

I was nice been able to work underneath with out jacking it up. what with a 3inch lift and bigger wheels.

What was wrong with it?



(PS I've a High and std ratio TF box in a couple of corners)

no probs .
punctured case whilst helping mate move some stuff bar in ground came up and hit it.
could have just changed plate from disco one i had.
gave me excuse to put disco box in as mostly used on rd these days as shes getting old and battered like me.
and only supposed to work on it in emergency according to swmbo until fuly recovered.

I put a disco high ratio in mine, not sure I would do it again.

Well for a start it doesn't effect the Low box, so n problem there. But you'll lose acceleration, gaining a little top end that to be honest unless your suspension is tight, you'll s***e yourself.

I also found that for the most of the time I spent in forth.

im just about to put another disco box im my 90, infact i went and got the other box today.

liking thye idea of the stand on the trolley jack, as there heavy to lift of your chest!
the disco box thats on at the min is full of metal shards, so i will be putting this other one on at the weekend.

one of the best things i done putting it on, i find that i could do with a 6th gear as it pulls really well in 5th.

perfect no signs of wear which suprised me a lot.

Lucky you, mine had less than a millimetre left, one good hard pull and it would have been curtains

Nice, but do you know that roverdrives do an extended LT230 sump? Presents a flat face (well, pretty much flat, it's got fins for heat dissapation) to the bottom, as well as increasing capacity, and cooling.

I always lifted from above with engine crane.
The LT230 is heavy enough but try a LT95 if you need a workout !

I've only ever changed an LT95 on the RR so should be able to do an LT230 with one hand?

Not a steel fabrication because I have more wood than steel lying about, and since the van would not move, I used what was there. Got the design sorted for a metal one, so that is on the 'project list'.

I dragged the transferbox connected to the r380 25ft into the garage, and fitted it single handily

Pita!! And I use the engine crane now. No more flexing the muscles, then aching for a few days after!.
