Trying to mig weld to pices of 3 mm holow pipe

I am making a pigs ear of what should be straightforward job/, i attended a welding course many years but forget most of what i was shown!!
Please have a look at the pictures of my attempt to MIG weld the section of pipe, i cleaned the metal, left a nice gap then disaster, no penetration, weld all over the place. I was practising on scrap metal before the real thing

What the ****** WENT WRONG.

proably I am going to stick weld the pipe together!

Not enough power and the wire speed isnt matching the power setting and it looks like you are moving to fast

Loooks like you need to have a tune up of your settings. More power wouldnt go amiss.
A bit of a prep, a small chamfer on the end of the pipe will help once youve got a nice balanced setting.

Do some more practice runs untill you get it right, that nice crips crackle.

Let us know what machine you have, and im sure some members will be able to give you a guidline setting.

A look at the runs on the scrap may help, were they OK? It looks like your volts could be a bit low or possibly you have been a bit to far from tip to work.

try upping the current and the wire speed. There is a video in tutorial on setting speed

3mm is max power on that mig. Try starting on 5 wire speed. You are welding gasless I take it. As you have the work lead (earth) in the positive.

you are using the same mig as me, I find for any material that thick you will need to use power settings on full (2-max) and wire speed around 6-7 to get any real penetration.

You're welding with gas Devatsar...you've got the earth/torch leads the wrong way round...swap em over as per diagram on the front panel. Up the power & wire feed as the lads say, also close that gap, too much. Prep the edges as Hitch suggested & tack in place before trying to weld all the way round.

Ummm... Im still pretty new to MIG, but:

I think a twisted torch lead might damage the liner and cause excessive drag on the wire, putting pressure on your wire feed mech?

Anyone care to correct me on that pls?

always good to keep torch lead as straight as possible to give wire easiest path that you can,play around on some scrap lay straight beads as these are easier when your confident,try some practise runs with pipe ,may helpto start with no gap toget feel for the angles,and gradually work your way up to achieving the penetration you require?what is pipe for is it carrying weight ?
