Hi all
I've had a second hand snap-on turbo mig 130 for the past 2yrs now. It worked fine for approx the first yr and half after which it became a bit temperamental, now after not using it for 6 odd months it won't work at all. Here's the problem...
The wire feeds but there is no spark. I've tried it on nice fresh steel with a good earth and even 'shorting' the torch straight onto the earth clap. At first I thought it was the contactor as it can no longer be heard clicking. However after digging around on the forums i found a chap with a similar problem and he narrowed it down to the relay on the pcb. Therefore i cut the relay out of the equation (well i think i did!) by disconnecting the 3 pin connector (of which only 2 are used). Then shorting the 3 pin connector by using a loop of wire between the 2 active pin sockets. This made the contactor active upon turning on the welder then the touch tip sparked when touched on the earth clap.
Does this sound like the relay is duff? I've tried sourcing a new compatible relay with no luck. (Maplin staff are useless! I went in to see them and the sales assistant recommended a relay with 6 pins, but the relay in question seems to only have 5!)
Any suggestions??
Many thanks in advance
Pete
