turning a buzz box into DC?

Dumb question I know, since someone would have done it by now, but I have one of those cheap transformer buzz boxes that welds ok once you get over the initial sticking of the electrode to get the arc started. What would it take to turn this into a dc only machine for easier starts? I'm thinking there must be more to it than just switching the + and - wires around. Would I burn out the diodes by running it in reverse (I'm sure it would), but what else would be needed to turn this into a dc machine if at all possible?

you would need 4 high power diodes arranged in a bridge rectifier configuration and some serous hat sink! I'm on with doing it so i can use my TIG box

Madkay I know dik all about electronics so is this something I can buy off the shelf and just solder it in or would I need a sparky to fabricate?

depends what current the welder can produce search ebay for Bridge rectifier

Here is a thread on one that was converted.

you will need 4 diodes, and an MOV at minimum. Even better if some caps and a reactor are added.
