However if you can get one to fit, it will be certainly a lot cheaper than an air fed top of the range full face welding mask.
Anyone have any experience of this ?
A note of caution:* Please be careful with the use of two pack paint & fillers, the free isocyanide that is expelled from the accelerant in these products, can on rare occasions be fatal, but can in some unlucky people, cause sensitization, leading to lifetime of asthma type symptoms, I am one of those unlucky people and can never spray or be exposed to this type of paint/chemical again, without severe breathing problems getting worse after each instance of exposure. *Please email if you want any more detail on this or are worried about the risk. I will explain the facts to you, as I wished someone had explained it to me! Cough wheeze cough.............
Good news, as from January 2008, Cellulose, 2-pack & Maxibase will be not available for use. The only paint systems legal to be used after then will be, waterbased & Ultra high Solids Solvent Systems. We have experimented spraying with MaxMeyer Aquabase with some success, using distilled water as thinners & cleaning guns with tap water. Colour costs will increase by appoximately 20% but coverage is 25% better. Avoid water based systems that use HMdi as an accelerant as these will still cause breathing problems. New sprayguns will be needed, we purchased a Devilbiss GTI gravity-fed model for £185+vat, but one of our trade customers bought a Kestrel 2004 LVLP gravity-fed one for £99.50+vat & when I used it, was very pleased with the results. Ultra High Solids Solvent Systems like UHS still use standard accelerant & should be avoided (22-05-06)
I was thinking about this thread re: wearing respirators under the welding mask. Last week at college, i was asked some questions for my C&G mig welding test. The only one i got wrong was the one about. "what gases are released at the weld when welding with a mig set up" I was stumped and could only weakly offer two gases of CO2 and NO2, both of which were wrong (according to city and guilds) I know have read that Ozone and Carbon monoxide and nitrogen monoxide are three of the gases given off, is this correct ? and what other gases are there from a mig weld ?
