R ramsay Member Messages 51 Jun 22, 2008 #1 Dont know anything about compressors. What kind of compressor do i need to buy just for spray painting steel railings and gates. And what kind of paint can be used in compressors i take it you cant just put in any old paint into the gun. Thanks in advance

A standard sprayer (high pressure) will vary on CFM by size. For most sprayers the paint needs to be reduced (thinned) to a specific level. I paint small things with Rustoleum thinned 3:1 with acetone. Works well in my HVLP sprayer but takes 24 hours to dry. You will need to decide what sprayer you want, check its CFM needs amnd match a compressor to it.
