Type of paint?

Hello everyone

I'm a complete beginner when it comes to pain spraying, but would like to give it a try. I know the colour code for my Astra - 10L glacier white, but what do I ask for, synthetic paint? It's just a replacement door that needs spraying, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would go with celly. Easy to polish up and more durable than synthetic. Can go over it with clear one or two part lacquer.

I'd agree with cellulose. It will match the original paint better than anything else. Its easier to work with for a novice and can be flatted and polished to get rid of the minor imperfections/dust etc that you will inevitably get. Both 2 pack and synthetic will be harder wearing, but 2 pack is very dangerous without the proper breathing equipment and not really a "home use" paint, it also tends to look "plasticky". Synthetic tends to look "Plasticky" too and cannot be worked when it is dry, how it comes out of the gun is how it stays.

Usually I just use spray cans but thought I'd give spraying a go. It's an old car which just needs tidying up really.

I recently did some work on my Sons VW Golf and he bought aerosol cans from somewhere on the net , he just gave them the paint code and they made it up , it was a base coat and lacquer and it came out a treat he was well chuffed.

According to a chap on another forum who works there, the stuff Halfords mix in-house to order is celly.

I've sprayed (and brushed) Halfords mixes over acrylic before now with no ill-effect. I don't imagine I could do that if it were celly...

Why not? If you take a bit of care things won't necessarily shrivel up. I've put 2-pack on top of synthetic, my Landy is covered in it. According to the 'rules' this should be total disaster, everything should fall off, kittens die etc.
I was surprised it was said to be celly, but the guy does work there and that's what he said. Hopefully anyone buying paint will ask what it is before shelling quids over.

tbh pal synthetic and celly is old hat i know 2 pack paint contains alot of isosanates but give a far betty finsh its alot harded wearing id get it in 2 pack solid its a solid paint so it does not require laqureing all you need to do is ad teh hardner at usually 2:1 ans aprox 10% thinners pointless using a clear over base when its a solid colour 1/4 of a liter will do a door no probs if you do it in solid do 2 /1/2 coat you carnt go far wrong with that pluss another advantage its very easy to polish

Be careful it's the hardener ( Accelerator ) that has the Polyisocyanates.
