Tyron the tree frog and friend

Hi all

I hope you're all well and those of you affected by the snow I hope your workshops and garages are toastie!

I've been busy this week and thought i'd share a couple of bits I've been working on. Firstly this is my new employee Tyron the tree frog and his friend Delia the dragonfly (This cold has obviously affected my brain a bit!!)

Anyways it was good to get some new inspiration to make Tyron, it was a hard work getting all those bends right but I've had lots of fun. I'll post up the final pics when he's finished!

That's lovely Pondman, I do love the dragonfly. Do you use a jig for the dragonfly or is it all bent "freehand" I only ask because you have done other dragonflies before as I recall. What sized section is it made from, 10mm? Do you all this bending cold? Neat work, you must be very good at welding to do all those little welds!!

I use a metalcraft XL5 for most of the bending

Thank you! It's always good to know because they're slightly smaller and easier to handle than my pond covers. I've wondered if the dragonflies could sell as wall art.

Thank you very much!! I use a template for the dragonflies wings the rest is freestyle. I use 10mm bar for the dragonfly and 8mm for the frog and it was much more technical to make. I'm still trying to figure out what to do with pattern on the back, I think it ruins the frog a bit at the moment but it's not finished yet.

We should wear capes with an XL5 Super Hero style patch.
Loving the frog and dragonfly.
Pondman, I agree with you about the pattern on the frog.
It is a great strength to be able to say 'Nope'. and chop things up.
I would say it is nearly there, but not quite.
Maybe have a look at the patterns on poison arrow frogs
Making all those bends can be a great game, but it soo easy to get wrong footed and balls it up completely.
But working freehand is very satisfying.
Wall art? damn right they would work as wall art.
Whenever I look at the pond covers I think 'they would look great stuck on a wall'.
Interestingly I have pictures of frogs all over my wall at work at the moment. But I am thinking in 3D.

I've always wanted to make a frog but I suppose the time was never right, my new employee inspired me with the idea and I sold it to a customer, only problem is it's meant to be on a pond cover that was supposed to be sent to the painter on Friday. All this snow is making work a little hard.
You're right about the pattern and bang on with the poison dart frog!! That is the pattern I've had in my head. Thank you!! I have a problem, I rarely make something and like it the fist time. I'll always see where it could be better and I'll change it over and over till the itch goes away. I'm finally happy with the dragonfly after a few goes.
I'm really getting the bug to start making wall art, I've been getting some great responses from the few I've done.
We should definitely fly the XL5 cape. Until you've used it its impossible to know how great it is! I want another for outside!! (Need a industrial roller and plasma cutter first)

Its finished, and I'm happy with the pattern on the back now! Thanks Chunko' I did have a more rounded pattern in mind but looking at the poison dart frogs made it clear!
