Universal thinner ?

Just found a gallon of "standard thinner" I didn't know I had and the same of "universal thinner". The "universal" has no brand or ID - no idea when or why I got it - is it celly??

The "std" is labelled and have ID'd that as 2k. Guessing "uni" means celly, but thought it worth an ask...

I always understood universal was for both celly and 2k, and standard was celly. Will be good to know definite though.

i use standard thinners on most paints 2k hammerite ect made my own ech primer for fiberglass .use grey celly primer mix with fiberglass resin inject styrene hardener thin with celli thiners and away u go .can even spray hamerite thinned with celly on household gloss paint as long as its not put on 2 thick takes longer to harden mind just experement a bit on something not important the manafaturers say dont but thats cos they want u to buy there products. as long as u dont get any reaction on paint no probs

celly thinners is only a method of thinning paint to transfer it then evaporates

i used celly thinners in hammerite smooth when i sprayed my garage door in the summer,gave a lovely hi gloss finish.

lol u can even thin household gloss with it depending what primer u put on

The "standard" is labelled so I was able to look up it's spec sheet, it's definitely for 2k and doesn't mention celly paint, but "standard" seems a general name so maybe there's no rule as such.

I'll treat the "universal" as celly, gunwash/cleaner.

If I thin other paints (i.e. not 2k or 1k etc) I go for 2k thinner, seems less fierce than celly. Or synth thinner for red oxide works nicely. But only buy el cheapo celly for gunwash though, so wouldn't chuck that in a paint.
