A quick little project converted cheap and nasty Aldi padlock to something worth using. I welded it with the lock in the jacket and got a nice shrink fit. You could drill in a pin and plug weld the ends otherwise.

I am afraid the weak point in these isn't the brass, it's the lock release mechanism. Literally less than a second with a 1mm Allen key or drill bit will have that open - and that's the so-called "premium" "Master" brand, not Aldi's finest. They're all made the same way though.

Sadly there are very few secure locks, I purchased anti bump anti pick locks for my house, it is true, no one will pick them or use lock bumping, why bother when you can jam a screwdriver in and use a pair of grips to just rip the thing out then unlock the door in a few seconds

My delusion of security got a reality check by watching youtube videos!

do you mean you can poke through the key barrel on these and pop them open ?

some locks are so easy to open , i have one ,, looks good, can be opened just as quick as opening with a key ,,

some locks are hard to pick though ,,

It is even easier than that. You don't even need the tension hook. You don't pick the lock, but the release mechanism.

The shackle is the weak point on most padlocks. But very few opportunist thieves will carry a set of picks and padlock shims with them. A good hammer blow will destroy most B&Q "high security" padlocks.

Get a padlock with a good lock cylinder like an Abus and encase as much as you can in a thick steel box. That way you are forcing them to pick the lock or destroy the box. Only the most determined will carry on - maybe they know what's inside?

Failing that buy the best hardened closed shackle ones you can find like a Burg Wachter.

Google "Klom pick gun" on YouTube for a real fright in relation to your home security.

I got interested in locks when a locksmith wanted £270 to open and change two euro cylinders after a tenant disappeared. The £80 Klom has proved invaluable. The £270 became £125 and I've used it more than once since.

A set of Goso picks was only £20 and I've had great fun playing with them. I can now pick most euro cylinders by hand - James Bond style - but if I need to open one the Klom has never failed to get it open in a few seconds.

well after googling Klom pick gun, im going to make one (for research purposes only of course) so far the cost is £6, think a new profession is in the making, keep your eyes peeled on crimewatch....... lol

well £6 well spent, chopped it up and with some blue peter sticky backed plastic, made up a gun..... well sort of....... and it works very well 15 seconds and i was in my conservatory without a key, scary ole world

i've broken into my own padlock using a tin can before......


Any of you guys got a generic £50 electronic safe ? You'll be glad to know thats as safe as a paper bag too. a quick thump with your hand is enough to bounce the lock open !
