Looking to upgrade my compressor what cfm do I need to run my air tools I think the one I have now is an 8cfm is there a minimum??

belt drive 14cfm with 3 hp motor 
and keep the one u have now as well .u can couple them together if u require a larger volume

Have been looking at a 9.5cfm that combined with my 8 linked to heather would that give me 17.5 cfm is that how it works ????

best get a 14cfm though then u only need run one for most jobs rather than bothBill Edwards

How good is your power supply? Make sure it's up to running whatever you opt for as compressors can draw a lot especially on startup.
You can link two compressors together, just by setting the pressures the same so they're cutting in and out at (almost) the same time. I suppose one big unit is nicer to have, but two does work.
