Have had a bit of a weekend jaunt Durham way with my partner, she has bought a lovely little investment property in Shotton Colliery.
Just opposite is an amazing welded sculpture of boxing gloves commemerating 'Maurice Cullen' who was from the area.

Also, had to pop to Seaham to the estate agents, parked in the rememberence car-park and an equally if not more incredible sculpture of a WW1 soldier.
we didn't have much time and the weather was awful, but was incredible (wow!)
i guess a few local guy's must be familiar with them.
Stayed in a place on the A181 the 3 horseshoes, quite lovely!
