Hey not so much of the 'mad'................... Slightly eccentric maybe!
Thanks again Andy. These will be very handy for my 'mad' experiments once I can get the time to carry on with the frankenwelder.
I spent my spare time today doing battle with my old Sealey MM100XT. Decided to make a better job of the torch and it's cable which I bodged years ago and convert it for gasless wire at the same time. I've come to the conclusion that although gasless ain't pretty it will be really handy not to have to swap over my gas bottle or drag a big machine out every time I want a quick splatt of weld to glue some bits together.
I'm also thinking of using one or two of the chokes to make up a removable in-line inductor I can pop into the ground lead to see it's effect on performance of different machines starting with the little Sealey. It seems to run .8mm gasless wire easily from minimum up to maximum voltage with very little difference in the ferocity of the arc. Maybe a second choke could calm it down a bit??
