I'm thinking of buying one of these small welding/heating/ cutting sets which use rent free bottles of oxygen and propylene, the acetylene substitute. The torch can also be used with propane for cutting or heating. Can butane be used instead of propane with these types of torches? From the bit of research I have done and speaking to blowtorch manufacturers, the only reason propane is preferred over butane is because butane doesn't "work well" in cold conditions because of its higher boiling point. There is no difference in calorific output. I think propane LPG cylinders also use a threaded outlet on the cylinder instead of a push fitting?
